Top 5 New and Upcoming Verizon Phones: Fall 2012
So you’re on Verizon, you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what Verizon’s got coming out during the next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later. While not everything here is confirmed (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are 5 phones that are here or said to be on their way to Verizon and that any Verizon user with an upgrade should be really excited for.
1. Samsung Galaxy S III
If you’re looking for a new Android phone right now we have to recommend this beast.
The Galaxy S III has everything you’d want in a new top of the line Android phone: a gorgeous 4.8 inch 720p HD screen (so everything– games, videos, pictures, texts– looks beyond amazing on here), 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor with 2 GB of RAM (this means anything you do will load even faster), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (with a promised upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean), 8 megapixel back camera with a 2 megapixel front camera for HD video chat, NFC (for using this as a wallet or sharing pictures just by tapping with another phone) and of course, support for Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE network.
The Galaxy S III is available now for $200 for the 16 GB version or $250 for the 32 GB version, both with a new 2 year contract from Verizon.
2. Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD
The Droid Razr and Razr Maxx have been two of the most impressive Verizon phones of recent months. Their crazy thin designs, great looking screens and, on the Razr Maxx, ridiculous battery life really raised the bar for Droids. Now for 2012, Verizon and Motorola look to raise the bar again with the Droid Razr Maxx HD.
Specs wise this goes toe-to-toe with the best of them. This beast packs a very thin, water resistant, design made from Kevlar (so you don’t need to worry about this breaking in half if it drops or a little water gets on it. Though since its not fully waterproof we don’t recommend taking it in the pool), 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor (up from the 1.2 GHZ processor on the original Razr Maxx) with 1 GB of RAM, 4.7 inch Super AMOLED HD screen, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (with a promised upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by the end of 2012), support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, NFC, and an 8 megapixel back camera with HD front camera for video chat. And like the Razr Maxx you can expect this to have awesome battery life that should easily get you through the day no matter what you’re doing.
We don’t yet know a price or release date, but Motorola is saying that this will be available “before the holidays.”
If Android or the iPhone aren’t your thing, then you might like HTC’s new 8X, running the all new Windows Phone 8. While Windows Phone hasn’t been as popular as Android or the iPhone, it’s a very good OS and offers a lot of nice updates such as customizable Live Tiles on the homescreen, a better Maps app, as well as support for faster processors and HD screens.
And the 8X looks to make full use of all these new features with it’s 4.3 inch HD screen, a 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor with 1 GB of RAM, 8 megapixel back camera and 2.1 megapixel front camera with a wide angle lens (so you can capture more in your HD video chats), built-in Beats Audio, and 4G LTE and NFC support.
HTC hasn’t announced a price for this yet (though rumors have it at $200), but we can expect to arrive in November.
4. Samsung Galaxy Note 2
If the screens of the Galaxy S III, Razr Maxx HD and iPhone 5 are too small for you, then maybe this will be better. The next version of the giant screened Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note 2, is coming to Verizon (in addition to AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile) later this year. And if you thought the first Galaxy Note was big, well the screen on this guy is even bigger.
The Galaxy Note 2 packs a 5.5 inch HD Super AMOLED screen (up from 5.3 inches on the original Note), a 1.6 GHZ quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM for awesome power, 8 megapixel back camera with 1.9 megapixel front camera for HD video chat, NFC and 4G LTE support, and 16 GB of built-in storage (with room for another 64 GB through microSD). Oh, and the Note 2 will also launch with the latest and greatest version of Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean.
No word on price or release date, but we’ll let you know once we learn more.
5. Apple iPhone 5
This wouldn’t be a top 5 phones list without it. As good as the iPhone 4 and 4S were, the iPhone 5 looks to be even better. With features like a larger 4 inch Retina Display, an even thinner unibody design, iOS 6 with an improved Siri, better front camera, longer battery life and of course, 4G LTE support, it’s got everything we were hoping the iPhone 5 would have. Now it doesn’t have as big a screen or features like NFC as the Android and Windows phones above have, but if you’re looking for an iPhone this looks to be the one to get.
The iPhone 5 will be available starting tomorrow, September 21st, for $200 for 16 GB, $300 for 32 GB and $400 for 64 GB, all with a new 2 year contract.
So there it is, our top 5 list of the best new and upcoming Verizon phones. As always, Verizon’s got some very good phones on the way in the next few weeks, and if you’re looking for a new superphone we really recommend you try to wait for them. Of course, we’re sure Verizon has a whole lot more planned up its sleeve– and we’ll of course keep you updated on whatever new news they announce.
So, you want any of these phones as your next phone or is there another phone you’re eyeing? Let us know in the comments.
