No, Facebook Will Not Make You Have To Pay For The New Updates
Sep 25th

An example of some of the many Facebook scam statuses
By now you’ve probably heard the news that there will be some major changes to Facebook coming out over the next few days/weeks, including a whole new design for your profile called Timeline (which we’re not gonna get into right now, but basically it allows you to fill in all your memories from literally the time you were born in to your Facebook profile so it’ll be available online for all your friends to see forever. Yes, it’s that creepy. More info here). Now whether or not you like the new Facebook (other updates include the new chat and the new News Feed which you’ve already probably seen if you’ve logged on to Facebook this past week), one of the big things we’ve been asked since the announcement were if the statuses like the ones you see above were true. These status said that unless you re-posted the status you’ll have to start paying a monthly fee to use Facebook. Put simply, this is all a scam and completely untrue.

Ever get one of those annoying mass texts that said that if you forward said text to (insert number of friends here) some company/organization/cat will donate money to a cause or that the next person you see will be your soul mate and you’ll live happy ever after forever? Sorry to say but like these Facebook statuses these are all scams and are completely made up by random people for fun. The only thing that will happen if you post them or forward them is you’ll end up annoying someone else. Facebook is free, and as they write on their homepage (which you can see for yourself if you log out), it always will be. No monthly fees, no subscriptions to get the updates– everything is free (I mean, Facebook needs you to want to continue to use their site. It’s how they make billions selling ads).
So if you see one of your friends falling for this latest scam feel free to calm them down and let them know that everything will be ok and that Facebook will still be free even after this latest update comes out.

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming To AT&T October 2nd
Sep 22nd

On AT&T and waiting anxiously to make the Samsung Galaxy S II you’re next phone? Well, your wait is almost over. AT&T has announced that beginning October 2nd (or about 10 days from now), the Galaxy S II will finally be available for the standard smartphone price of $199.99 with new 2 year contract and data plan.
For those who don’t know, the Galaxy S II is by far the most powerful Android phone ever released on AT&T and is right up there with the iPhone 4 as one of AT&T’s best cell phones. Like Sprint’s Epic 4G Touch, the AT&T Galaxy S II comes loaded with impressive specs like a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screens (pretty much a slightly smaller version of the Infuse 4G’s 4.5 inch screen. Basically, everything and anything you view on here will look incredible), 8 megapixel back camera with 2 megapixel front camera (for higher quality video chatting), ridiculously thin design (it’s literally pencil thin!), the latest and greatest Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz 4.0), support for AT&T’s HSPA+ 4G network (this is the faster, upgraded version of AT&T’s 3G network and is available in most areas you normally would get 3G), 16 GB of built-in storage, and a super fast dual-core 1.2 GHZ processor (so you should never see any freezing or lag even when doing intense things like multitasking or gaming).
All in all, if you’re looking for an awesome new phone on AT&T– and don’t want to wait for whenever the new iPhone comes out– this looks to be the phone for you. So, anyone looking to get this right away or are you gonna instead wait to see what’s new in the next iPhone before deciding which is your next phone?

Verizon Announces The Pantech Breakout– It’s First 4G LTE Phone For Under $100
Sep 20th

Sure Verizon’s 4G LTE phones are crazy fast– truly giving you the speed of your home internet wherever you are– but until now they’ve also been crazy expensive, starting between $250 and $300. That all looks to change this Thursday, September 22nd, when Verizon releases their fifth 4G LTE phone: the Pantech Breakout.
On the surface the Breakout looks like any other 2011 Android phone, with solid specs like a 1 GHZ processor (more than enough for multitasking and some decent gaming), 4 inch screen (while not as nice as the Droid Charge or Droid Bionic’s 4.3 inch screens, it’s still pretty solid and should be more than enough for enjoyably watching YouTube videos and browsing the web), the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a 5 megapixel back camera with a second front camera for video chat. Now while this clearly isn’t as powerful as Verizon’s other 4G LTE phones, the Breakout does have one major advantage over them– that awesome price of just $99.99 with new 2 year contract, data plan and $50 mail in rebate. If you were looking for a solid Android phone that could go on Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE network– and you don’t want to spend $200-$300 on a phone– then this is definitely for you.
For all the info on the Breakout see Verizon’s site here.
Samsung Epic 4G Touch Now Available From Sprint
Sep 16th

If you’re on Sprint and were waiting for the Epic 4G Touch (aka Sprint’s version the Galaxy S II Android superphone) then today is you’re lucky day. As promised, Sprint has finally released the Epic 4G Touch today and it’s now available for you to order for the standard superphone price of $199.99 with new 2 year contract and data plan.
For those who don’t know, the Epic 4G Touch is one of the most powerful 4G Sprint phones yet, with impressive specs like a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus screens (like AT&T’s Infuse 4G. Basically, everything and anything you view on it will look insane), 8 megapixel back camera with 2 megapixel front camera (for higher quality video chatting), ridiculously thin design (it’s literally pencil thin!), the latest and greatest Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz 3.0, 4G, 16 GB of built-in storage, and a super fast dual-core 1.2 GHZ processor (so you should never see any freezing or lag even when doing intense things like multitasking or gaming).
We haven’t yet had a chance to see the Epic Touch 4G in person but we have used its European cousin (which is pretty much the same as Sprint’s version but is simply called the Galaxy S II) and we gotta say– this looks to easily be up there with the Photon 4G and EVO 3D as one of Sprint’s top phones today and is definitely worth a strong look if you’re looking for an awesome new Sprint phone.
For more info on the Epic 4G Touch check out Sprint’s site here.
Is This What The iPhone 5 Will Look Like?
Sep 15th

File this under major rumor. Today a few leaked cases hit the internet supposedly showing off the iPhone 5′s major new design. And while this is only a rumor, you know what– we actually can see this as being real. But before we get to our thoughts, let’s get to the rumors.
These new cases from a respected case manufacturer called Case-Mate. Apparently earlier today someone at Case-Mate put up a page on their website very clearly showing off iPhone 5 cases, and while we could only see the back, the cases do match up with all those earlier rumors of a much thinner design and larger camera (the page by the way has now been pulled).

Now here’s why we really can see these rumors as being legit. With the iPhone 5 rumored to be coming next month (the CEO of one of France’s biggest carriers seemed to confirm that today, saying it’ll be coming October 15th), and Apple said to have already begun making hundreds of thousands of these new iPhones in China each day (something they’d need to start doing now if they were launching worldwide in October. We’re talking millions of phones here that take much more than a few days to make), it only makes sense for Apple to pass along info to case manufacturers and accessory makers so everyone can have everything ready whenever Apple finally does release the iPhone 5. And that someone of the who knows how many companies involved in making the iPhone 5 or its accessories would leak something like this (or post it early by mistake) is not that crazy of an idea at all.
So yeah, this still may not be the iPhone 5 (there are still some rumors saying it’ll just be an updated iPhone 4 with pretty much the same iPhone 4 design), but we would not be surprised at all if it is.
We’ll of course keep you updated as more iPhone 5 info comes out, so stay tuned– something tells us that with all these leaks and big rumors an official iPhone 5 announcement is very close. In the meantime though, what do you think of this possible new iPhone 5 design?

HTC Announces The Sensation XE, The First Phone With Built In Beats Audio
Sep 14th

While we love the designs and features of all of HTC’s latest phones (like the Sensation 4G and EVO 3D), one area that seems to always be in need of improvement is the sound quality. Now we’re not saying the sound on these phones were bad, they just always seemed a little weak compared to how nice the rest of phone was. That looks to change in a big way today with the announcement of the HTC Sensation XE, the first phone with built-in Beats Audio.
You see, HTC also knows their sound quality could use some improvement so a couple of months ago HTC bought the whole Beats by Dr. Dre company– yes the same company that makes the Beats headphones you see all your friends wearing and that you really want but don’t want to pay $150-$500 for. And while the headphones will still be made, HTC said they’d be bringing that Beats technology into their future phones and tablets. Which brings us right back to the Sensation XE.
At first glance the Sensation XE looks to just be an updated version of that Sensation 4G we know and love. Specs wise it’s got the same amazing 4.3 inch Super LCD screen, thin design, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with Sense 3.0), 8 megapixel back camera with second front camera for video chat, 8 GB or 16 GB microSD card pre-installed (so you can load your music on this right out of the box), a slightly faster 1.5 GHZ dual core processor (compared to the Sensation 4G’s still speedy 1.2 GHZ dual core processor) and a slightly bigger battery (so you can get the extra power and better sound and still have your phone last through day). But since it’s the first phone with built-in Beats Audio, you know everything will now sound awesome too– particularly when you plug in the included Beats by Dr. Dre in-ear headphones (seen below) that automatically turns on a special Beats mode that will make everything you listen to sound so much better (thanks to its fuller bass, clearer vocals and broader range). Yeah, if you want an awesome music phone this is for you.

Unfortunately we don’t yet know if/when this new Sensation XE will hit the US (it’ll be coming to pretty much the rest of the world sometime later this month), though HTC is holding an event next Tuesday (September 20th) in New York and who knows what they’ll show off then (rumors are it may be a few more phones– including a new 4G Verizon Android superphone code-named Vigor– with built-in Beats!). We’ll of course have all the info you need to know on whatever it is they announce covered for you back here, so stay tuned!

The Teen First Look: BlackBerry Torch 4G
Sep 13th

We recently got a chance to spend a few minutes with the latest BlackBerry Torch 4G, and to say we were impressed would be a major understatement. We’re gonna get right to it– this is everything the first Torch should’ve been (yeah, it’s that good).
On the first Torch things were slow, it froze a ton, and the screen just looked downright pathetic next to top phones like the EVO 4G and iPhone 4. And while this new Torch isn’t necessarily better than the iPhone 4 or Infuse 4G, it’s now much closer and without a doubt in our minds the best BlackBerry available today on AT&T (well, at least until the Bold 9900 finally comes out).
