The Teen First Look: Verizon’s HTC ThunderBolt

The ThunderBolt, Verizon’s first 4G LTE phone. Blazing fast and we’re not even talking about the data speeds. We checked it out at CTIA and for Verizon users looking for a new phone today, this looks to be an excellent choice.
Design wise the ThunderBolt is a bit thicker than other HTC phones like the G2, Inspire 4G and EVO 4G (and it felt like it was thicker than the new EVO 3D for that matter, but we couldn’t get the 2 side by side), but not too thick that it won’t fit into your pocket. The screen on the ThunderBolt was, like HTC’s other phone, incredibly sharp. Everything we saw on it looked clear and bright and together with the 1 GHZ processor made using the phone a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The ThunderBolt also packs a 8 megapixel back camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera, which in our quick look seemed to perform very well as well. And of course like pretty much all of HTC’s Android phones, the ThunderBolt packs the latest in HTC Sense on top of Android 2.2 (which will be upgraded to Android 2.3 at some point).
Yeah, its crazy fast– and this is in an area packed with Verizon 4G devices!
Oh, and the 4G? It’s ridiculously fast. In a packed area (this was at CTIA, a cell phone show, after all) the ThunderBolt still got beyond impressive 4G speeds, with pages loading near instantly and videos playing without any buffering or waiting. Unfortunately we couldn’t test out the battery given the short time we had with the phone.
The ThunderBolt is available now for $249.99 with a new 2 year contract from Verizon.

Sprint Announces Goolge Nexus S 4G

AT&T isnt the only one making news in this day before CTIA. Sprint– who plans to have a crazy CTIA of their own– has today officially announced that before Spring is out they will be bringing the Samsung Nexus S to their 4G network with the appropriately named Nexus S 4G.
Beyond packing that Sprint 4G goodness this is pretty much the same Nexus S that was announced last year, though it’s still a pretty solid phone nonetheless with specs like a 4 inch high-res “Contour Display” with anti-fingerprint coating (in other words– a really nice, sharp screen that will make every thing on it look nice and clear. Oh, and the screen itself is curved — yes, curved– so that the phone will feel more natural in your hand particularly when your using it as a phone), 1 GHZ Samsung Hummingbird processor (for keeping things running fast and smooth), 5 megapixel rear camera with flash and second front camera for video chat (like the Epic 4G), 16 GB of built-in storage, WiFi (with support for the latest N networks), GPS and of course the latest and greatest version of Android for phones: Android 2.3 “Gingerbread.”
The Nexus S 4G will be available “this Spring” (so most likely very soon considering its almost April) for $200 with a new year contract and data plan.
AT&T Announces Two New Incredible Smartphones: HTC HD7S and 3D-Packing LG Thrill 4G

Sure we’ve still got a day before CTIA officially begins, but as we saw yesterday AT&T isn’t waiting for nobody to make major news. Following yesterdays blockbuster announcement of their buying of T-Mobile, AT&T has announced today that they are bringing two new smartphones to their already impressive smartphone lineup: the Windows Phone 7 running HTC HD7S and what is nothing short of an absolute beast, the LG Thrill 4G WITH a glasses-free 3D screen.
Looking for a new AT&T phone anytime soon? If so, then you’re for sure gonna wanna learn more about these two.
WOW! AT&T To Buy T-Mobile– What This Means to You

While the big US cell phone show, CTIA 2011, isn’t expected to kick off officially until Tuesday, AT&T and T-Mobile have officially begun what looks to be an incredibly week for new cell phones with the announcement that AT&T will be buying T-Mobile. You read that right– AT&T is buying T-Mobile for an incredible $39 billion.
Now beyond having all of T-Mobile’s 34 million customers join AT&T to create one of the largest networks in the world at 130 million people, you’re probably wondering right now what this all exactly means to you (and this goes double for anyone with T-Mobile). To be honest, for the next 12 months or so, probably not a whole lot as this deal still needs to clear all the federal and regulatory laws needed for such a massive merger (something which isn’t guaranteed to happen either). Assuming it does pass though here is what we’re looking at.

Verizon users are you ready for 4G!?!?! We know this day has been a long time coming (with the ThunderBolt having been rumored to have launched late last month, then early this month, then now), but if you can wait just a little bit longer you could save yourself some serious cash. Instead of running to your local Verizon store right now to go pick one of these, you may wanna head your browser over to Amazon for a much better deal: the ThunderBolt with all its 4G awesomeness for an amazing $179.99 on new 2 year contract and data plan. Currently the phone is on backorder (meaning it will ship in 8-9 days) but you’re saving $70 off Verizon’s price, and at that price this is probably the best phone on Verizon right now.

Sprint Planning Some Major Announcements For Next Tuesday?

Looking for a new Sprint phone? If we were you we’d hold off on that for a few more days. With CTIA 2011 (CTIA is where a lot of the new cell phones for the US are announced, kinda like CES just completely focused on cell phones and tablets) set to kick off next Tuesday, Sprint has sent out invites for an “exclusive event.”
Now we’re sure you wondering right now: what does this all mean, and more importantly what new device(s) are they about to show off? Well, if the rumors are any indication, Sprint is about to unveil some seriously insane and awesome stuff. Rumors have been saying the event (which is slated to run an insane 2 and a half hours!) will include the next generation of the incredibly popular EVO 4G (which just so happens to have been announced at CTIA last year) possibly called the EVO 3D (yes, that would mean this phone would pack 3D!), an HTC EVO View 4G tablet (possibly an Android tablet with 10 inch screen), and a Sprint 4G version of Samsung’s Nexus S. Yeah, things look to be incredible indeed.

It’s Official: Verizon and HTC Finally Launching the ThunderBolt This Thursday

Wow this week looks to be quite the week for new cell phones. First pics show up of the next version of the Incredible, then Sprint announces price and launch info for their dual-screen Kyocera Echo, and then T-Mobile took the wraps off the new Sidekick 4G. Today, this week of awesome cell phone news continues with Verizon and HTC finally revealing when Verizon’s first 4G LTE phone will finally be available. When is this elusive date and how much will this 4G beast cost you? Try this Thursday, March 17th, for $249.99 with new 2 year contract and data plan.
We know the cost seems like a bit much (all the other 4G phones on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all are under $200), but considering all that you get here it’s not too bad. A brief recap of the specs:
- 4.3 inch Super LCD screen– Basically, an awesome screen.
- 8 megapixel back camera with HD video recording with front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat–Just like the EVO 4G. And while the 1.3 megapixel isn’t as insane as that dream rumor of 5 megapixel for the front, it’s still pretty impressive and should offer some solid video chat of its own.
- Android 2.2 with HTC Sense 2.0– As seen on the Inspire 4G for AT&T
- Skype mobile with video chat– Though this won’t be available right from launch.
- 1 GHz processor with 768 MB of RAM– to keep things running fast and smooth.
- Dolby Mobile surround sound– For awesome sound
- Mobile hotspot– For sharing that 4G goodness with up to 8 other WiFi devices you own like your laptop or iTouch.
- 40 GB of storage out of the box!– We’re talking 8 GB built-in and an additional 32 GB(!) on a microSD card. Yeah, you can store a ton of music, movies and pix on here.
But here’s the best part: Verizon’s 4G data plan? It’s unlimited internet for the same $29.99 a month you’d be paying for unlimited internet on a 3G-only iPhone, Droid or BlackBerry. Yes, unlimited internet at 5x faster speeds for the same price. And unlike Sprint, Verizon isn’t charging an additional $10 ”premium data” fee for the right to use their 4G network.
So there you have it, Verizon’s first 4G phone will finally be at your local Verizon store in 2 days. You gonna go pick one up?
T-Mobile’s Next Generation Sidekick Is Official– Meet the Sidekick 4G

They’ve been teasing it for a few weeks now, but it’s now finally official: T-Mobile’s next generation of the Sidekick series, the Sidekick 4G, will be here before the end of the Spring. Made by Samsung, this new Sidekick finally brings back the hit series just now in a much more 2011 way.
Running Android 2.2 (a major step up from the old Sidekicks), this new Sidekick is absolutely loaded with specs like a 1 GHZ processor, 3 megapixel back camera with a second front camera for video chat (seen below), and of course WiFi, GPS and 4G (with support for T-Mobile’s latest and fastest 21 Mbps– or ridiculously fast– 4G network). But that’s not all. Like all the older Sidekicks, the Sidekick 4G packs the same iconic design where you pop up the 3.5 inch touchscreen (also a first for Sidekicks) to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard.
T-Mobile’s also gone one step further here, throwing in a whole bunch of very teen focused apps like Group Text (for better management of, well, group texts), Cloud Text (which let’s you text all your contacts from your computer– great if you don’t have cell service but have internet access from a laptop. It even syncs your conversations up so you can keep up right where you left off), built-in Facebook and Twitter apps (for staying constantly connected. You can even comment on your friends statuses from your Contacts app or update you status for both sites at the same time) and DriveSmart which helps protect against distracted driving by allowing you to set a customizable automatic note that goes out to people who call or text you letting them know that your driving and will respond when you can (something, as new drivers ourselves, we are big fans of here at TeensTalkTech. No text is worth possibly killing yourself).
No word on price or an exact release date but T-Mobile said it should be available “later this Spring” in either purple or black.
