Tomorrow Apple is expected to finally take the wraps off of the next iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone 5. Ever since the iPhone 4 was announced two years ago, the rumors of what we could expect in the iPhone 5 have been crazy. And they’ve only been getting more intense.
So, what can we expect tomorrow? Here are our best guesses for what we think will be new in the iPhone 5.
Earlier this year AT&T announced that they would begin officially unlocking customers iPhones for free, assuming they met a short list of requirements. And while this was a win for anyone looking to use their iPhone on a different network, like T-Mobile, or overseas (and a much better option than trying to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone yourself), the process wasn’t the easiest. Previously you would have to call AT&T directly, with no way to unlock the iPhone in store or online.
Well, now AT&T has made the process a bit easier, allowing any current, former or even non-customer (assuming you have the phone number of the person who previously had the iPhone) to get your iPhone officially unlocked online. All you have to do is go to AT&T’s site here and fill in all the information (the IMEI number can be found in Settings, About on your iPhone).
As we’ve said above, you also will need to meet AT&T’s pretty simple requirements to be eligible to have your phone unlocked by them: your iPhone cannot be tied to any current contract (meaning you can’t go out and buy a new iPhone with a 2 year contract and then have them unlock it the next day. Your phone has to be active for at least 60 days), and you can’t currently be owing AT&T any money (meaning you’ve paid your bills). Oh, and your iPhone can’t be one that’s been reported lost or stolen (pretty common sense). All this information is on AT&T’s site.
Assuming you’ve met those requirements you can then submit your request online and expect AT&T to unlock the iPhone 5-7 days later (if you call directly you can have the iPhone unlocked immediately). All in all, if you’re on AT&T and looking to unlock your iPhone, this may be the best and easiest way to do it.
It’s been no secret that T-Mobile really wants the iPhone, and equally no secret that T-Mobile users want one too (with over a million iPhone’s already being used on T-Mobile’s 2G network today). Ever since the first iPhone launched in 2007 all iPhone’s could be used on T-Mobile’s network, but the problem was they only could use T-Mobile’s 2G network and not it’s fast 4G one. This had to do with fact that the iPhone didn’t have the right radio band inside needed to use T-Mobile’s faster networks (known as the 1700 MHz band)– but that will all change soon. If Apple won’t bring the iPhone to T-Mobile then T-Mobile will go to the iPhone.
Later this year, T-Mobile will begin to upgrade some it’s 2G network (on what’s known as the 1900 MHz band) into part of it’s 4G network. Unlike the 1700 MHz band, this 1900 MHz band is supported by the iPhone (since AT&T uses it for some of their own 4G HSPA+ network). Basically what this means is that any unlocked iPhone– from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4S (and presumably the new iPhone 5 or whatever it’s called later this year)– will now be able to finally get T-Mobile 4G!
There is still no word as to whether T-Mobile will finally get to officially sell the iPhone (and thereby have an iPhone that also works on their current 1700 MHz 4G network), but T-Mobile says that this upgrade should be finished by the end of the year (think somewhere between October-December). So T-Mobile iPhone users you can finally relax– one way or another you’ll finally be able to get a 4G iPhone.

So Verizon users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks/months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what Verizon’s got planned during those next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help.
While not all of these are confirmed to be coming to Verizon (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are 5 phones that have recently launched or are said to be on their way to Verizon over the next few weeks/months that anyone with an upgrade should be really excited for (and trust us– they’re really good).
Sprint users, you’re wait for the iPhone finally begins its end. Sprint today has finally added both the new iPhone 4S and the 8 GB iPhone 4 to its website, with both being available for pre-order right now and available next Friday, October 14th. Like AT&T and Verizon, Sprint’s iPhones will cost $99 for the 8 GB iPhone 4 and either $199, $299 or $399 for the iPhone 4S (depending on if you get the 16, 32 or 64 GB version). Unlike the AT&T and Verizon iPhones though, Sprint will still be offering unlimited data for $40 a month (once you include their $10 “premium data fee,” though if you have a family unlimited plan you may be able to add unlimited data for just $20 a month. AT&T’s data plans on the other hand are either $15 a month for 200 MB, $25 a month for 2 GB, or $45 a month for 4 GB. Verizon’s data plans start at $30 a month for 2 GB and go up to $100 a month for 12 GB).
For those who don’t know, the iPhone 4S is Apple’s latest and greatest iPhone. While it looks exactly like the iPhone 4 and has many of the same features (including the same 3.5 inch Retina Display, Facetime camera and being 3G only), under the hood it’s a whole new animal with a much faster dual-core processor (which means faster app openings and even better gaming), 8 megapixel back camera and support for Siri, Apple’s incredible new virtual assistant. For everything new in the iPhone 4S, see our full breakdown here.
So, Sprint users– you ready to finally get the iPhone?

Here it is, the news everyone’s been waiting for. Apple’s has just announced the next generation of the iPhone, the iPhone 4S. On the surface the iPhone 4S looks just like any iPhone 4, but like with the iPhone 3GS, Apple has made some major changes under the hood here, changes that will change the way we use technology forever.
So what are you waiting for? Read on for everything you need to know about the all new iPhone 4S!
While we haven’t yet gotten to the new iPhone announcement, Apple has just announced something that will surely be great news to anyone with an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad (original and iPad 2), or iPod Touch (3rd and 4th gen)– the long awaited, latest and greatest version of iOS will finally be coming to your iDevice exactly one week from tomorrow, October 12th.
As with all recent iOS updates the download will be free, but for all those waiting to use iMessage (Apple’s new version of BBM for iDevices) your wait is almost over. For the full recap of what’s new in iOS 5 see our previous post here.
Well, here it is– the official invite from Apple for their next big iPhone event. Yes, in exactly one week from today (October 4th) Apple will finally, officially unveil their next iPhone(s). We’ll of course have everything covered for you back here, so make sure to check back next Tuesday for all the info you’re gonna want and need to know about everything Apple announces.
And for those who haven’t been following all the iPhone rumors, here are a few of the biggest ones to catch you up:
- Sprint getting the iPhone 5?
- Is this what the iPhone 5 will look like?
- Is T-Mobile also getting the iPhone?
So, how excited are you for the new iPhone?
Well, it looks like the long wait for the iPhone 5 is finally coming to an end. According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal’s All Things D blog (a site that knows what it’s talking about when it comes to Apple rumors), in just under two weeks Apple will finally reveal the next iPhone to the world. Yes, October 4th looks to be new iPhone day.
So, beyond the iPhone 5 (which according to the latest rumors is said to have that incredibly thin new design, larger screen and 8 megapixel camera) what else can we expect Apple to show off in two weeks? According to the latest rumors, Apple will also use this big event to release its new iCloud service (which allows you to store all your music, videos, pictures, apps, documents etc. online and access it from any internet-connected device like an iPhone, iPod, iPad or computer), iOS 5 (including iMessage, Apple’s version of BBM), and possibly even a new/upgraded iPod Touch and an upgraded iPhone 4 (rumored to be called the iPhone 4S. This iPhone will look pretty much the same as today’s iPhone 4 but will also be faster, have a plastic design– the current iPhone 4 is made of glass– and be priced much lower than the iPhone 5. Think of this as the new iPhone 3GS which AT&T sells today for just $50 with new 2 year contract and data plan).
As for when the new iPhone 5 will be out, All Things D says we can expect it ”within a few weeks” of the announcement, though when exactly is still unknown (maybe October 15th?).
Now remember– Apple still hasn’t confirmed anything and All Things D also mentions that while October 4th is right now the plan, Apple still may change the date. We’ll of course keep you updated as more info comes out, so stay tuned!
It seems pretty much a lock that AT&T, Verizon and Sprint will be getting the next iPhone whenever it launches, but what about T-Mobile? Well T-Mobile users, while this is just our guess, we think you guys will also be getting the iPhone 5 next month. Here’s why.
