The iPhone 5C goes on pre-order tonight at around 3:01 AM Eastern Time (or 12:01 AM for those on the West Coast). All the major carriers will sell the iPhone 5C and all will be taking pre-orders starting tonight. If you’ve been waiting for the 5C here are all the details on where you can pre-order one of the newest iPhones.
As you’ve heard, this week Apple unveiled not one but two new iPhones, the long rumored iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. From all the rumors and leaks it seems that we’ve seen everything with these phones months ago but this week Apple made it all official.
Both the iPhone 5S and 5C go on sale next Friday (and the 5C is available for pre-order tomorrow), but to help you decide on which iPhone is right for you we’ve rounded up everything that’s new and what you need to know about in each phone below.
It’s been rumored for months and the date was leaked a few weeks ago but now it’s all official. Apple this afternoon sent out invites for an event next week where they are expected to announce two new iPhones, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
The iPhone 5S is said to be the successor to the iPhone 5 and have a similar design with a faster processor, larger battery, 13 megapixel camera with improved flash, and a fingerprint sensor in the home button. The 5S is also said to come in a gold/”champagne” color in addition to the usual white or black.

The iPhone 5C is a cheaper iPhone that is said to be replacing the iPhone 4S at the bottom of Apple’s line-up. It will be made of plastic instead of the aluminum the 5 and 5S are made of, but will come in a wide range of colors including yellow, pink, light green, light blue and white. Yes, the same colors as the ones seen on the dots on the Apple invite above. The 5C is said to have many of the iPhone 5/5S’s features like running iOS 7 and having a 4 inch Retina display, but it won’t have all the newest parts like the faster processor, 13 megapixel camera and fingerprint scanner. Then again, since it’s supposed to be several hundred dollars cheaper than the 5S we wouldn’t expect it to.
Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are expected to be released about 10 days after Apple’s event, on September 20th.
There are also rumors that Apple might use this event to update the iPad, iPad Mini and MacBook Pro but most expect those to be updated in October as Apple has done in the past. Whatever Apple does announce though you know we’ll have it covered for you here.

So AT&T users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what AT&T has got planned during the next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something now only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help. With all the excitement around new phones like the Lumia 1020 and Moto X, and rumors about the Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5S, we figured that now was a good time to wrap everything up.
So without further ado, here are 5 of the best new phones that either available now at AT&T or are coming soon. If you’re on AT&T and have an upgrade coming up these are some of the phones you’re going to want to take a look at.
Get ready because it’s that time of year again. No, not the end of summer or returning of school, but time for a new iPhone. Over the past few years Apple has held events in September to announce their newest iPhone. In 2011 it was for the 4S and last year it was for the 5. If these latest reports from All Things D are true (and they have been in the past) then mark down September 10th as that will apparently be the day that Apple reveals their next iPhone, the iPhone 5S/6.
Now what exactly will be in the next iPhone is anyone’s guess at this point. Most expect the next iPhone to be faster and have a better camera than the iPhone 5, but beyond that the rumors are really all over the place– from a fingerprint sensor, to a bigger screen to more colors beyond black and white. And of course there are a lot of rumors on if the name of this next iPhone will be the iPhone 5S or if it will have a big enough upgrade to go straight to iPhone 6.
The rumored, more colorful, iPhone 5C
On top of all that there is also a lot of talk about Apple coming out with a new plastic, cheaper and more colorful iPhone called the “iPhone 5C” in addition to the new iPhone 5S/6. The iPhone 5C is said to have an 8-megapixel camera, 4-inch Retina Display and cost $300-$400 without a contract (by comparison the 16 GB iPhone 5 starts at $650 without a contract, which would mean that this new iPhone would most likely be free or at the most $100 with a new 2-year contract). We’re sure that the rumors on both of these iPhones will only get crazier as we get closer to September 10th and we’ll make sure to keep you updated. One thing we do expect any new iPhone to have however is iOS 7, the next, redesigned version of iOS.
So get ready. The countdown to the next iPhone begins now.

While Apple has been pretty quiet when it came to releasing major new hardware during the first half of 2013 (so far all they’ve released is an updated iPod Touch 16GB and an updated MacBook Air with amazing battery life), that hasn’t stopped the rumors about the next iPhone, the “iPhone 5S.” Over the past two weeks rumors on this next iPhone have really picked up and it seems we may have even finally gotten the first pictures of the 5S (or whatever it will be called). And as many would have guessed, it looks a lot like the iPhone 5.
The rumored new flash on the iPhone 5S
These new 5S pictures come from MacRumors and while they show a design that’s practically identical to the iPhone 5 there are already a few interesting pieces worth noting. Assuming these are legit, it looks like the 5S will have a slightly bigger battery than the 5 (about 8%-9% bigger or 5.92 Whr compared to the 5.45 Whr on the 5– hopefully this will mean better battery life), while running a new processor (possibly the A7) and will sport a second, different colored flash that will supposedly make low-light pictures look a lot better. That is all that seems to be noticeable from these leaked 5S pictures, though other reports– like this one from Reuters– say that the 5S will come in multiple colors with new features like a fingerprint scanner and a bigger screen (we obviously can’t tell any of that from these pictures).
Now we know that some of you are thinking that it’s a bit early for iPhone 5S leaks, it is possible these are legitimate pictures of the 5S once you consider how long it takes for Apple to make the millions of phones it needs for a new iPhone launch. Apple needs to start mass producing these phones months before they go on sale, so around this time would make sense if a new iPhone is really coming this fall. Of course it’s also important to remember that these are just rumors and since Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about any new iPhone all of this might be wrong and the next iPhone might be completely different from these rumors. Basically, take all of this with a grain of salt.
The next iPhone is expected to be released this fall (around September/October just like the 4S and 5 were) and you can bet that as we get closer to that time we’ll be seeing a lot more rumors like these. In the meantime, what do you want to see in the next iPhone?
For most of 2013 Verizon has been pretty quiet on the new phones they’ve launched. But that all looks to change very soon. If you’re on Verizon and have an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks or months these are some of the best phones either already at Verizon or rumored to be coming to Verizon very soon. The last thing you want is to go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later.
While not everything here is confirmed to be coming to Verizon (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are five phones you should be excited for if you have an upgrade coming up.
T-Mobile users, you can now buy the iPhone 5. As we wrote yesterday, the iPhone today has finally come to T-Mobile and it is available to buy now at T-Mobile stores or online at T-Mobile’s site. Pricing for the iPhone 5 starts at $99 down (with $20 monthly payments for two years) for the 16GB version, with the 32GB and 64 GB versions costing $199 and $299, respectively (also with $20 monthly payments for two years). If you want to buy full price– remember, T-Mobile doesn’t do two-year contracts anymore– you can for either $580, $680 or $780 depending on if you get the 16GB, 32GB or 64GB iPhone 5.
Now if you look at T-Mobile’s site you will notice that the iPhone 4 and 4S are listed, but depending on where you live you might not be able to actually buy either one. The reason for this is that the 4 and 4S don’t have the right chips inside to fully support T-Mobile’s 4G network. Ever since the first iPhone launched in 2007, all unlocked iPhones could be used on T-Mobile’s network. While they all could work, those phones only could use T-Mobile’s 2G network and not it’s fast 4G one. This had to do with fact that the iPhone didn’t support the right radio band needed to use T-Mobile’s faster networks (known as the 1700 MHz band).
Last year T-Mobile began switching their 4G HSPA+ network from that 1700 MHz band to the 1900 MHz band their 2G network used so that the iPhone 4 and 4S could get 4G. Unlike the 1700 MHz band, this 1900 MHz band is supported by the iPhone since AT&T uses it for some of their own 4G HSPA+ network. Apparently this changeover hasn’t yet happened everywhere, and in those places where the iPhone 4 and 4S won’t get 4G HSPA+ T-Mobile won’t sell the iPhone 4 and 4S. The iPhone 5 has been updated to support T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network on both the 1700 MHz and 1900 MHz bands and can work wherever T-Mobile has 4G HSPA+ which is why it can be bought from anywhere. The T-Mobile iPhone 5 also supports T-Mobile’s new 4G LTE network, so you have an added benefit of that as well.
T-Mobile users the wait is over. Tomorrow the iPhone 5 will finally be available to buy in T-Mobile stores and online. And while it is pretty much the same iPhone 5 that the other carriers have sold, as you’d expect the T-Mobile iPhone 5 will work with T-Mobile’s new and upcoming 4G LTE network and their current, fast 4G HSPA+ network. This means you can expect 4G like speeds on your iPhone even if where you live hasn’t gotten T-Mobile 4G LTE yet (and it likely hasn’t. T-Mobile’s 4G LTE has only launched in seven cities, though much more are expected by the end of the year). If you already have an unlocked iPhone 5 and are on T-Mobile you should also see a software update in the Settings app that will bring these 4G improvement to your iPhone as well.
T-Mobile’s iPhone 5 will be available in both white and black and in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, though when it comes to pricing things get a little more complicated.
Whether you’re going to a beach, skiing in the mountains or just staying at home for Spring Break keeping your iPhone protected is a big deal. The last thing you want is to go somewhere and have your phone break because it accidentally sliped out of your hand. While there are few good cases that offer decent protection for phones from companies like HTC, Samsung, and BlackBerry there aren’t many. The iPhone on the other hand has almost too many cases available.
We have been getting a few questions lately about good, strong cases for the iPhone, particularly for surviving things like a crazy Spring Break. So whether you’re still on Spring Break or are heading back to school, here are a few cases you’re gonna want to check out to make sure your iPhone is always safe.
