Verizon’s LG Versa- the coolest phone EVER
Jan 23rd

That G2 leaked pix we showed you other day? That was nothing compared to this new phone Verizon and LG have up their sleeves. The phone is the LG VX9600, or Versa, and once you see what it can do, you’ll see why we’re giving this the title of the COOLEST PHONE EVER! So what you waiting for? Hit the read link and let’s go!
Is this the T-Mobile G2?
Jan 21st
T-Mobile G2???
Well pix are out now on the internet of T-Mobile’s next possible version of Google’s Android powered T-Mobile G1 (to learn about the original G1, see our previous posts here). The pix show a whole new design with no annoying “chin” for the trackball, and instead has the trackball built straight on the device (Finally! That “chin” must be really annoying to use for texting).
There also appears to be different forms of buttons underneath the screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and what is arguably the biggest design change– no physical keyboard. Yup, the G2 looks to drop one of it’s biggest feature in order to get a thinner design. Oh, and as of right now that would be a pretty big problem as Android doesn’t have a virtual keyboard like the iPhone. Don’t worry though possible G2 owners, we fully expect Android to have an official virtual keyboard well before this thing comes to it’s rumored launch in May
I personally don’t find the new G2 design to be so great, as the smaller buttons and new design just look plain ugly to me (at least from this shot), especially when compared to phones like the iPhone, Blackberry Storm and Bold, and I even think it looks worse then the original G1 (which I didn’t think was so bad to begin with, minus the whole “chin”). Though, a bunch of awesome features would make that feeling go away pretty quickly
(you know, an awesome, possibly even multi-touch touchscreen, a normal 3.5 mm headphone jack instead of the current “do all USB port” on the G1 would be some good starts).
Again all this is just a rumored device, as neither T-Mobile, HTC (the makers of the phone as well as the G1), or Google have said anything. But hey, assuming this is the G2, what features would you like to see in this phone? Do you like the new design, even if it means losing the keyboard? G1 owners, you like/dislike your G1, and would you reccomend the G1, or that people wait for the G2 to come out? Sound off in the comments.

Would You Buy an iPhone 3G for $99?
Dec 5th
iPhone 3G only $99?
Times are tough and the holiday season is fast approaching, so we expect a lot of bargain deals to hit the shelves in order to lure customers.
This deal (its actually a RUMORED deal), however, we did not see coming. As you saw in the title, the deal is an iPhone 3G for only $99 on a 2 year contract! Yup, all that sweet multi-touch, 3G, App Store, GPS and iPhone goodness for under a Benjamin, an offer so cheap because it is coming from Walmart, who are well-known for their great deals and cheaper prices. One major drawback to the deal: only 4 GB of memory (this stinks, we know).
Hey, you can’t have everything
, and if you plan on using your iPhone as an iPod as well, then this may not be the choice for you (4 GB is not a lot- maybe a couple movies or about 1,000 songs). We also assume you would still need to sign up for the $70 a month AT&T iPhone plan (only $30 a month if you’re adding to a family plan, as I found out when I went to an AT&T store a couple weeks ago) or some equivalent phone plan that perhaps will be cheaper per month because of the cheaper price of the phone.
But we just gotta ask- is this something you see yourself getting for the holidays assuming this is all true, and that Walmart gets this out the door soon (as in, before the end of the year)? Would you rather pay the extra $100-$200 to get an 8 GB or 16 GB? Or just ditch the iPhone all together and go for a phone like the Blackberry Bold, Pantech Matrix, Samsung Propel or other AT&T phone? Let us know in the comments.
Remember: all of this is still a rumor at this point (though Walmart will be selling the standard iPhone 3G sometime soon).

Street View and More Coming to the iPhone
Nov 12th
Google Street View on iPhone
If this report from Gizmodo.com is to be believed, then the answer is yes. According to this report, by November 21, Apple will release a new iPhone/iPod Touch software: Version 2.2.
What’s new about it?
- Google Street View for Google Maps- you know, like on the T-Mobile G1 where you can view real images of certain streets? You can also see it on your computer here
- walking directions and bus schedules in Google Maps- great for when you need a GPS to help go somewhere
- Over-The-Air Podcast downloads- download all your podcasts straight to your phone/ iPod.
We still don’t know if the infamous absence of the Copy/Paste feature will finally be added, but the updates is only 10 days away so sit tight
.
What you think- you excited for over-the-air podcast downloads and Google Street View? Would you rather see Apple add a different feature (if so what feature)? Let your voice be heard in the comments.
(Note: this is just a rumor– previous rumors said the update was coming in October; for all we know, the update might make the iPhone a webcam or something…I think somebody just started a rumor lol
).

New Macbooks Coming Next Week!
Oct 9th
The Macbook event invite
Apple just announced today that next week on October 14, they will be releasing new Macbooks! What these Macbooks are exactly remains anyone’s guess, but the strongest of rumors claims that all the Mac notebooks (including the regular Macbook) will be made out of a single piece of aluminum. Some weaker rumors say everything from new trackpads (maybe glass ones with a multi-touch screen underneath, basically an iPhone in a Macbook), to a Mac tablet (see more info on these and other Macbook rumors here).
While we unfortunately won’t be there in person
, we will, of course, give you all the info once it comes out next week. In the meantime, hold off on that new laptop purchase and feel free to give us your guess/wish on what you think will happen next week at this Apple event in the comments.

iPhone coming to Verizon/Sprint in 2009?
Sep 30th
Coming in 2009?
This is the latest rumor hitting the streets, but before you Verizon users get your hopes up, remember this is just a rumor. What is this rumor exactly? As you may have guessed from the title, 9to5 Mac is reporting that come next year, Apple will be launching an iPhone designed to use CDMA networks — the network technology for Sprint and Verizon.
Now this would make sense for a couple of reasons:
- AT&T exclusivity agreement with Apple is already 2 years old — The rumor on how long this will last was between 2 and 5 years.
- Apple is letting go of some restrictions on the phone — In Hong Kong they are officially selling the iPhone 3G unlocked (albeit for $600- $700, or the same price it would cost to buy without contract here in the US). Apple also is letting the carriers control pricing of the phone, another sign they are “loosening up.”
- Apple is letting other stores beside carrier and Apple stores sell the phone- For example here in the US, you can now go to Best Buy to buy your iPhone instead of going to an Apple or AT&T store.
Now why wouldn’t Verizon work with this? Two reasons I can think of:
- Verizon initally turned down Apple- Yup in 2005 they were the first people approached by Apple for an iPhone, and turned them down (yeah I know- what in the world were they thinking!).
- The CDMA technology is a dying breed- Within the next few years, companies including Verizon and Sprint, will be going off CDMA in favor of 4th generation networks like LTE (Long Term Evolution- 4G network Verizon, AT&T and probably T-Mobile will use, very fast networks, and based on GSM- which is what AT&T and T-Mobile currently use), and XHOM (aka WiMax- very fast 4G network Sprint is using, actually started testing in Baltimore area). The 4G networks are expected to begin rolling out over the next few years (not until at least 2010 though), and that would make a iPhone for CDMA a really short term investment that might not be worth taking.
I highly doubt the iPhone will be coming to Verizon or Sprint anytime soon, but hey, you never know with Apple
What are your thoughts/prayers- how bad you want the iPhone to come to Verizon or Sprint (and based on our doubts we really mean prayers
), or are you happy with your Samsung Instinct or LG Dare and don’t need an iPhone. Let us know in the comments.

iPhone 3G Getting Updated?
Sep 21st
iPhone 3G- now with double the memory?
With all this talk (covered by us here) of new touchscreen phones going to Verizon (Blackberry Storm), and T-Mobile (HTC Dream/G1, as it is now going by), as well as Sprint’s Samsung Instinct App Store release date nearing (October 10 is when the winners of the contest for best apps should be announced, and we assume the time when we will also then get more word on when this “App Store” will launch), it is only right to go back to the phone that started all this touchscreen madness: the iPhone and its successor, the iPhone 3G.
The latest rumor we got for you today is that as soon as next week, Apple could be updating the iPhone 3G to 32 GB of storage (moving the 16 GB model to where the 8 GB is now, and dropping the 8 GB entirely), and may even go back to in-home activation!
These are two updates I would personally love because I now get a much-needed, bigger iPod for my music and videos (I right now am on an old, original 1st Gen 4 GB Nano), a better cell phone (I am on AT&T), and the fact that I can handle the whole activating process from my computer — and not have to deal with all the craziness of lines and such that go on in Apple and AT&T stores — would be AWESOME!!!
Let’s hope this comes true and soon, but in the meantime: would you go for this “new” iPhone 3G, and hold off your existing purchase of an iPhone or one of these other upcoming phones for different carriers (see top), or are you just gonna say “This isn’t going to happen, and I want my iPhone 3G/LG Dare or Samsung Instinct NOW!” Let us know your thoughts and plans in the comments.
