Top 5 New and Upcoming T-Mobile Phones: Summer 2011
So T-Mobile users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks/months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what T-Mobile’s got planned during those next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help. While not all of these are confirmed to be coming to T-Mobile (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are 5 phones that are said to be on their way to T-Mobile that anyone with an upgrade should be really excited for (and trust us– they’re really good).
HTC Sensation 4G
If you’re looking for a top of the line T-Mobile phone right now you really can’t do much better than the HTC Sensation 4G. We checked it out recently and wow is it nice. With features like that all aluminum, thin design, amazing 4.3 inch high-res qHD screen (again, it’s amazing), Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0 and an 8 megapixel back camera with full HD 1080p video recording and a second front camera for video chat it’s as loaded a phone as you’ll find today. We were very impressed with the Sensation 4G when we saw it last week at CE Week, and if you’re looking for a great, new T-Mobile 4G superphone right now, this should definitely be one you check out.
The Sensation 4G is available now for $200 with new 2 year contract and data plan from T-Mobile.
HTC myTouch 4G Slide
While there are tons of Android phones out now on each carrier, finding a good one with a real physical, slide-out QWERTY keyboard is still surprisingly really hard. Well, unless you’re on T-Mobile. We loved the also recently released Sidekick 4G, but if you’re looking for Android with a bit more power and a super camera then this next generation of T-Mobile’s hit myTouch series is for you.
The new myTouch 4G Slide features many of the great features we love in the Sensation 4G– a high-res 3.7 inch screen (though here it’s slightly smaller when compared to the Sensation’s 4G 4.3 incher– but don’t worry, it will still make everything you look at on it look really nice, sharp and clear), 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor (so everything on the phone runs fast and smooth), 4G, and the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0— as well as some nice little differences software wise that really show off how powerful this phone is. The myTouch 4G Slide comes pre-loaded with Swype (for those times you don’t want to use that slide-out keyboard), T-Mobile TV and Netflix (which is notable if only for Netflix only being able to right now run on only certain Android phones. This is a perfect example of the big problem with Android today– major apps running on some phones but not others.), Group Text (which we also loved on the Sidekick 4G and are glad to see T-Mobile including here), and the myTouch 4G’s Genius Button for calling, texting, or even searching the internet only by using your voice.
And while all this is nice and impressive, it’s nowhere near the myTouch 4G Slide’s biggest feature– a super powered camera. Yeah, not only does this look to be a great phone as a normal Android phone, but it’s also looking to be a full on replacement for any other camera you have. There are two cameras on here, a front one for video chat and a second, 8 megapixel one on the back that is the real star of the show.
Seriously this camera is beyond anything ever seen on a phone. Here are a few of the features:
- Backside illuminated sensor and a wide aperture lens— In other words, this is great for taking pictures in dark, badly lit places and will make pictures taken even when using the 4G Slide’s dual-LED flashes look much better.
- Zero shutter lag— So you can get the best shot at that precise moment it’s happening the second you press the camera button.
- BurstShot– BurstShot takes multiple shots in one “burst” so if your taking pictures of friends attempting to dunk when you all know they can’t you’ll at least get a decent shot of them in the air so they’ll feel good when they see it later on Facebook.
- SweepShot— For taking panorama shots just by going across an entire scene in a single motion.
- ClearShot HDR– So that your shots taken in really bright light will look just as impressive as those taken in dark-lit places.

Yeah, if you’re taking a lot of pictures with your phone this is definitely for you. The myTouch 4G Slide will be available in July for $200 with 2 year contract and data plan.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900
Unlike AT&T, Sprint and Verizon where we expect the Bold Touch 9900/9930 will eventually launch, T-Mobile has actually confirmed that this latest and greatest BlackBerry is coming to its network this year. Sadly, they didn’t say exactly when or for how much (we’d guess the usual $200 on new 2 year contract with data and rumors are saying it will come around August 17th) but we do know it will be coming.
For those who don’t know, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is probably the greatest BlackBerry– ever. Specs on this beast of a BlackBerry include the latest BlackBerry OS 7 (with updates like a better and faster browser, nicer looking icons and menus, and universal search and voice search for finding things on your phone), a 2.8 inch touchscreen with normal BlackBerry keyboard underneath (and with a resolution of 640×480 everything– text, pix, BBM, videos, games, websites– will look incredible on here), 1.2 GHZ processor and 768 MB of RAM (basically, this will be the fastest BlackBerry yet— and by far), a crazy thin design, and a 5 megapixel camera with flash and HD video recording. Oh, and it’ll also be the first BlackBerry on T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network.
BlackBerry fans, this is definitely worth waiting for if you’re looking for a new T-Mobile BlackBerry.
Samsung Hercules/Galaxy S II
Now we’re not sure if T-Mobile is getting an “official” Galaxy S II from Samsung, but this Samsung Hercules sure sounds a lot like it and wow is it insane.
The Hercules is kinda like a T-Mobile version of the AT&T Infuse 4G mixed with the awesomeness of the Galaxy S II– a pretty amazing combination. Rumored specs on this beast include: amazing 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen (said to be just like the Infuse’s which is great news), 8 megapixel back camera with full HD 1080p video recording and second front camera for video chat, the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread (an upgrade over the Infuse which runs the older Android 2.2), 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor (like the Galaxy S II and should make everything on the phone run fast), 4G, and an incredibly thin Infuse-like design. This also is said to support AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network which would make this only get better if the AT&T buying T-Mobile deal goes through.
T-Mobile and Samsung obviously haven’t said anything on this yet but rumors have this coming in late summer (think September time).
An iPhone on T-Mobile’s 3G/4G network? Yup, that’s what it looks like from here
It wouldn’t be an upcoming phone post without it. Yes T-Mobile users, the next iPhone is rumored to be officially coming soon to your network later this year. And unlike with the Sprint iPhone rumors, pics (like the one above from BGR) have leaked out online of iPhone 4s (not 4S) running on T-Mobile’s 3G network (which, its worth pointing out, is also its 4G network) so we can assume Apple is at least thinking about a T-Mobile iPhone.
We obviously don’t know anymore about this yet, and for now like anything else on the next iPhone this is only a rumor, but this happening would not surprise us in the least (and hey, it beats waiting for AT&T to complete it’s purchase of T-Mobile which is expected to happen next year).
So there you have it T-Mobile friends, five of the hottest new and upcoming phones set to come a T-Mobile store near you in the coming weeks and months. Again, not all of this (like the Galaxy S II/Hercules and iPhone) are confirmed to be coming and can change, but wow if this is true then now is a great time to be a T-Mobile user with an upgrade. And like the other carriers, we’re sure this is only a small part of what T-Mobile has up its sleeves for the rest of the year.
So now it’s time for the big question: if you’re up for a T-Mobile upgrade this summer, are any of these new phones for you or do you just plan to try to wait it out until the next iPhone is announced (whenever that is) to see if it comes to T-Mobile before you make a decision? Do you plan on waiting to see what goes on with the AT&T deal before you upgrade and sign up for two more years (and better yet– do you like the deal or are you gonna try to switch your family’s plan to Verizon or Sprint)?
