Top 5 New And Upcoming Verizon Phones: Fall 2011

So Verizon users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks/months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what Verizon’s got planned during those next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help.

While not all of these are confirmed to be coming to Verizon (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are 5 phones that have recently launched or are said to be on their way to Verizon over the next few weeks/months that anyone with an upgrade should be really excited for (and trust us– they’re really good).

Motorola Droid RAZR

Here’s one thing you expect to see a lot of on this list: Android superphones. And the first of these superphones is the recently announced Motorola Droid RAZR.

For those who don’t know, this is pretty much one of the most amazing Droids yet. It’s got all the great features of the Droid Bionic (blazing fast 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor–which is even slightly faster than the Bionic– with 1 GB of RAM4.3 inch super sharp screen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, 8 megapixel back camera with HD front camera for video chat etc.) but in an even nicer design that’s not only RAZR thin, but also waterproof and made out of Kelvar (the same material used to make bulletproof vests!). Yeah, this is pretty insane.

We still don’t know exactly when this will come out (latest rumors say November 10th), but we do know when it does it’ll cost $300 with a new 2 year contract and data plan.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Here’s another impressive new Android superphone on its way to Verizon pretty soon, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. This is the first phone to run the brand new version of Android, called Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and put simply, it looks incredible.

We’re not gonna go through everything new with Ice Cream Sandwich (we did that here), but with better multitasking and features like Face Unlock this won’t just run better than older versions of Android, it’ll be much cooler too (did we mention unlocking the phone with your FACE!?!).

Hardware wise the Galaxy Nexus is a beast too, with its massive, 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD curved screen (so everything– games, videos, pictures, texts– looks beyond amazing on here. Think of this as an HDTV in your pocket, the screen on here is that amazing), 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor with 1 GB of RAM (for speed), 5 megapixel back camera (with the ability to instantly capture pictures the second you tap the screen) with a second, 1.3 megapixel front camera for high quality video chat, and of course, support for Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE network.

And since it’s a Nexus phone you know it will also get all the future Android updates as soon as Google releases them (something that takes months on non-Nexus Android phones).

We don’t yet know an exact release date or price for the Galaxy Nexus, but the latest rumors say it will launch in November for about $300 with a new 2 year contract and data plan.

HTC Rezound

Thought it was hard choosing between the Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus? Well, this isn’t going to make it any easier. Rumor has it Verizon will also be getting a new 4G superphone from HTC in November called the HTC Rezound (or HTC Vigor). And if you’re a media lover this will probably be the phone for you.

Like the Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus, this has all the top of the line Android specs you’d expect in a superphone: 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor with 1 GB of RAM (even faster than the already quick Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus), support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, and 8 megapixel back camera with a second 2 megapixel front camera for HD video chat.

Now while all that’s very impressive, here’s why we say this is the phone for media lovers: the Rezound is also said to have a 4.3 inch 720p HD screen (or the same, awesome HDTV-like screen as the Galaxy Nexus) and also be the first US phone to have built-in Beats Audio (so everything sounds just amazing as it looks). And if it’s like HTC’s first Beats phone, the Sensation XE (which didn’t launch in the US), we wouldn’t be surprised to see this also come with some Beats headphones— making it an even better deal.

No word on a price or release date for this beast just yet, but the latest rumors say it will join the Galaxy Nexus and Droid RAZR in November (and probably for the same $300 on contract price if we had to guess).

Samsung Stratosphere

For those who don’t need to have the latest and greatest, and instead just want a solid Android, 4G LTE phone that’s not $300 on contract, may we introduce you to the Samsung Stratosphere. Sure the Stratosphere doesn’t have a dual-core processor, HD screen or built-in Beats, but it is still pretty solidly spec’d with its 1 GHZ processor with 1 GB of RAM (in other words, it’s still pretty fast and should be more than fine for checking Facebook, playing Angry Birds, going online or doing all that at once), 4 inch Super AMOLED screen (a still very nice, clear screen), and solid 5 megapixel back camera with 1.3 megapixel front camera for higher quality video chat.

Oh, and not only is it also the only Verizon 4G LTE phone to have a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but it’s also available now for half the price of those other 3 phones at just $150 with a new 2 year contract and data plan (and it’s even cheaper at places like Best Buy where you can find it for just $100 on contract).

Apple iPhone 4S

It wouldn’t be a top 5 list without it.

Even though it’s not the iPhone 5 everyone was hoping for– and it still doesn’t have 4G or a larger screen— the iPhone 4S is still one of the best phones out there on any carrier. We loved the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S just makes it even better with its faster A5 dual-core processor, 8 megapixel back camera and of course, Siri, the amazing personal digital assistant.

Add in the App Store with its hundreds of thousands of apps, the still amazing Retina Display, and iOS 5 and iMessage, and the iPhone is still just as amazing as it’s ever been.

The iPhone 4S is available now for $200 for 16 GB, $300 for 32 GB, or $400 for 64 GB– all with a new 2 year contract and data plan.
