If you want a good, fast 4G LTE phone with an actual physical keyboard on Verizon your options are pretty limited. You can either get the BlackBerry Q10 or Motorola Droid 4. Motorola and Verizon recently released three new Droids– the Droid Mini (an update to last years Droid RAZR M that adds a nicer 720p HD screen, faster processor and 10 megapixel camera), Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx (both the Maxx and Ultra have larger 5 inch 720p HD screens and the same improved camera and processor as the Mini. The Maxx also adds a larger battery that can last up to two days on a charge). While those Droids are nice, none of them have physical QWERTY keyboards. The last Droid to have a physical keyboard was the Droid 4, which is a good phone but one that is over one and half years old (it was released in February 2012). Many thought that since Verizon hasn’t updated that Droid in so long meant that the era of keyboard Droids was over. Well, if these latest rumors are right, Verizon and Motorola may be planning another QWERTY keyboard Droid, the Droid 5.
The new Droid 5 looks to be pretty nice upgrade. Rumors are it will pack either a 4.3 or 4.5 inch HD screen (up from 4 inches on the Droid 4), have a thinner design that’s water and dust resistant, and pack support for NFC and wireless charging. And of course it has that full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. We also would expect it to have a faster processor and better camera than the Droid 4.All in all, not a bad upgrade.
No word on when Motorola and Verizon would release this new Droid or how much it would cost, but if you’re someone who still likes using a real keyboard know that Verizon and Motorola haven’t forgotten about you just yet.
Out of all the carriers, T-Mobile has been by far the most active in 2013. They finally launched the iPhone 5, got rid of 2 year contract plans, and launched JUMP!– a sort of upgrade/insurance program that let’s you swap your current phone for a new one (like a Galaxy S III for a Galaxy S4 even if it fell in the pool or you dropped it and cracked the screen). All of this on top of launching phones like the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and BlackBerry Q10.
Of course as with the other carriers,T-Mobile looks to really ramp things up in the coming months. If you’re on T-Mobile and have an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks or months these are some of the best phones either already at T-Mobile or rumored to be coming to a T-Mobile store near you very soon. The last thing you want is to go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later.
While not everything here is confirmed to be coming to T-Mobile (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are five phones you should be excited for if you have an upgrade coming up.
As far as new phones go, Sprint has released most of the big ones including the HTC One and Galaxy S4 but they look to really ramp things up in the coming months. If you’re on Sprint and have an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks or months these are some of the best phones either already at Sprint or rumored to be coming to a Sprint store near you very soon. The last thing you want is to go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later.

The PS4 isn’t the only new console making big news. While Sony was announcing the final missing details from the PS4’s launch– the November 15th release date and the launch games expected out around that time– Microsoft announced the launch games for their Xbox One.
Like the PS4, Microsoft has put together a pretty solid group of launch games of their own. As you’d expect, many of the games that will be available for the PS4 will also be available for the Xbox One at launch including:
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, NBA LIVE 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Just Dance 2014, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Skylanders: Swap Force and Watch Dogs. In addition to those games the Xbox One will also have a few exclusive games like Fighter Within, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Lococycle, Peggle 2, Powerstar Golf, Zoo Tycoon, Zumba Fitness: World Party, Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome.
Of course, unlike the PS4 which has a price and release date, the Xbox One still only has a price– $499 when it comes out sometime this fall. Microsoft still hasn’t said when exactly this fall that will be, though the latest rumors point to a November release around the same time the PS4 will be available. Then again, with all the changes Microsoft’s been making to the Xbox One these past few weeks (like with changing their stance on what you can do with your used Xbox One games) it is very possible that an exact release date still hasn’t been fully decided upon.
All we know is that it can’t get here soon enough.

The next generation of console wars has a start date. We already knew it would have killer graphics, some impressive games and a great launch price of $399 ($100 cheaper than the Xbox One), but today Sony finally announced the last major missing detail on the PlayStation 4– it’s release date. Well, here it is: the PlayStation 4 will be available in the US on November 15th, or just under three short months from now.
On top of that Sony also said that the PS4 will have 33 games available by the end of the year. The games include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Skylanders Swap Force, Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4, Madden 25, FIFA 14, NBA 2K14, NBA Live 14, Killzone: Shadow Fall, #DRIVECLUB, Knack, Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Just Dance 2014, and LEGO Marvel Superheroes. As far as launch lineups go this is pretty solid.
Oh, and the PS4 wasn’t the only PlayStation product to get some attention today. Sony also said that the PS Vita has been given a nice price cut and will now be $199 (for both the WiFi-only and WiFi+3G versions). If you were looking for a deal on the Vita for back to school, here it is.
Well, Verizon and HTC have held true to their promise after all. They said the HTC One would be coming to Verizon before the end of the summer and today they made it official. Next week, on August 22nd, the HTC One will finally be available on Verizon for $199.99 with a new 2 year contract– just in time for a last-minute upgrade before school starts.
For those who don’t know, the HTC One is one of the best phones available today. It’s got a beautiful all metal design, super fast quad-core processor, 4.7 inch 1080p HD screen, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, an IR blaster (for using this as a TV remote), HTC’s new ultrapixel camera, and built-in Beats Audio support with dual front speakers for incredible sound. If you’re looking for a new phone today this is a pretty great option.
Of course, with phones like the Moto X, Droid Maxx, iPhone 5S and Galaxy Note 3 rumored to be coming to Verizon in the not too distant future, it may be worth waiting a couple more weeks before signing that new 2 year contract.

Yesterday we covered some of the best new and upcoming phones coming to AT&T and now it’s Verizon’s turn.
For most of 2013 Verizon has been pretty quiet on the new phones they’ve launched. I mean, the only big phones they’ve released so far are the BlackBerry Q10 and Samsung Galaxy S4. But that all looks to change very soon. If you’re on Verizon and have an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks or months these are some of the best phones either already at Verizon or rumored to be coming to a Verizon store near you very soon. The last thing you want is to go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later.
While not everything here is confirmed to be coming to Verizon (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are five phones you should be excited for if you have an upgrade coming up.
So AT&T users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what AT&T has got planned during the next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something now only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help. With all the excitement around new phones like the Lumia 1020 and Moto X, and rumors about the Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5S, we figured that now was a good time to wrap everything up.
So without further ado, here are 5 of the best new phones that either available now at AT&T or are coming soon. If you’re on AT&T and have an upgrade coming up these are some of the phones you’re going to want to take a look at.
Get ready because it’s that time of year again. No, not the end of summer or returning of school, but time for a new iPhone. Over the past few years Apple has held events in September to announce their newest iPhone. In 2011 it was for the 4S and last year it was for the 5. If these latest reports from All Things D are true (and they have been in the past) then mark down September 10th as that will apparently be the day that Apple reveals their next iPhone, the iPhone 5S/6.
Now what exactly will be in the next iPhone is anyone’s guess at this point. Most expect the next iPhone to be faster and have a better camera than the iPhone 5, but beyond that the rumors are really all over the place– from a fingerprint sensor, to a bigger screen to more colors beyond black and white. And of course there are a lot of rumors on if the name of this next iPhone will be the iPhone 5S or if it will have a big enough upgrade to go straight to iPhone 6.
The rumored, more colorful, iPhone 5C
On top of all that there is also a lot of talk about Apple coming out with a new plastic, cheaper and more colorful iPhone called the “iPhone 5C” in addition to the new iPhone 5S/6. The iPhone 5C is said to have an 8-megapixel camera, 4-inch Retina Display and cost $300-$400 without a contract (by comparison the 16 GB iPhone 5 starts at $650 without a contract, which would mean that this new iPhone would most likely be free or at the most $100 with a new 2-year contract). We’re sure that the rumors on both of these iPhones will only get crazier as we get closer to September 10th and we’ll make sure to keep you updated. One thing we do expect any new iPhone to have however is iOS 7, the next, redesigned version of iOS.
So get ready. The countdown to the next iPhone begins now.

There are a lot of a great options for finding cheap textbooks online. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes and Chegg are among some of the biggest online textbook sellers out there, but now there is a new place to check out– Google. Google has added the ability to buy and rent textbooks right from the books section of their Google Play Store. Just like with Amazon and Barnes and Noble, you’ll be able to read these digital textbooks right from the Google Play Books app on your iOS or Android phone/tablet as well as from any computer by going to Google’s online Play Store and signing in.
Google advertises that they will be selling digital textbooks at up to 80% off the price of the equivalent print versions, though as with Amazon and other online textbook sellers we don’t expect this to always to be true for every textbook. As usual you’ll probably be best off looking around at multiple sites to find the best deals for the particular textbooks you need. But hey, with school starting up again in just a few weeks any ways we can save some moeny on textbooks sounds worth trying to us.
You can check out Google’s new textbook section of the Play Store here.
