Unfortunately as we all know all good things like summer must eventually come to an end and we have to return back to our regular ways of life and school– which we all know comes back way too quickly. As the back-to-school sales really begin over the next few weeks we want to help make sure you go back fully prepared, well, gadgets wise at least.
One of the toughest things today in back-to-school shopping is finding a new computer/tablet/phone that isn’t just cheap or good, but right for you and what you want and need it to do. We want to try to make this easier for you, and over the course of the rest of the summer we plan to have a whole bunch of posts and guides on good deals we see, some of our recommendations for a new computer, tablet or phone etc. In short, we’re here to help.
So with all that in mind we’re gonna kick off this back-to-school “series” with some tips on what you should look for when your out shopping for a new laptop for school and what are the basic specs that any 2011 computer you buy should have.
As expected, Apple took the wraps off some incredible new MacBook Pros today– and by incredible we do mean incredible. We’re talking much faster, and much, much more powerful that if your looking for a new computer you’re gonna wanna know about. So what you waiting for? Over the course of the rest of the summer we plan to have a whole bunch of posts and guides on a whole bunch of ways to survive– and possibly even enjoy– the coming school year, and we’re gonna kick off this “series” with some tips on what you should look for when your out shopping for a new laptop for school and what are the basic specs that you should have.
As the holiday sales continue and computers go on sale, here a couple of things to consider when getting a new computer (desktop or laptop):
1. At least 2 GB of RAM if you are getting Vistas’ Premium, Business, or Ultimate, and Mac OS X Leopard. If you are getting Vista Basic 2 GB will not hurt especially if you want to upgrade later to a higher version of Vista. The more RAM you have the smoother your computer will run in terms of both speed and overall ease of use.
2. Hard Drive of at least 80- 160 GB. A standard for today is 160 GB and you can even find computers on sale in stores with more space. Just a note: If you plan on using your computer for a lot of music, videos or pictures, the more space you have will be better. A space of 160- 320 GB or more would be good.
