In a time where we see more and more phones launch with screens of 4.5 inches or more, it’s nice to see a phone that’s not as huge but still just as powerful. Verizon get this and today they announced the next generation of their Droid Incredible line, a phone we’re happy to say that it is exactly that.
Like the earlier Droid Incredibles– the original Droid Incredible and the Droid Incredible 2— the Droid Incredible 4G LTE is a powerful phone in a very nice, thin design. If you want a fast 4G LTE phone on Verizon that doesn’t need you to have huge hands or pockets we think this is the phone for you. Specs wise it’s just as impressive as those earlier Droid Incredibles and is exactly what you’d expect from a top of the line phone today. It’s got a 4 inch qHD screen (while not as clear as the as a lot of those 720p screens you see on big phones like the HTC One X, it still should make everything you view on it– from videos to pictures to apps– look pretty amazing), a 1.2 GHZ dual core processor with 1 GB of RAM (so everything runs smoothly), an 8 megapixel back camera with a front camera for video chat (with HTC’s Video Pic software so you can take pictures while you’re recording video), built-in Beats Audio support (so all your music and videos sound great), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and of course, it runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
No word yet on when this bad boy will be available to order (or how much it will), but if it comes in below $100 with a 2 year contract it could be a great choice for anyone with an upgrade. Verizon said we should expect the Droid Incredible 4G LTE to arrive in the “coming weeks.”
Want a sick new Droid but don’t want to pay $300 for it? Well, if you’re willing to give up not having Verizon’s blazing fast 4G LTE for the next 2 years there looks to be a pretty awesome alternative to Verizon’s second 4G phone, the Droid Charge, that also just so happens to be launching tomorrow– the next generation of the insanely popular Droid Incredible.
As the rumors a few months ago said, this new Droid Incredible 2 looks to pick up exactly where the first Droid Incredible left off, with a sleek design and powerful specs. We’re talking a bigger 4 inch high-res screen (over the first Droid Incredible’s already nice 3.7 inch), 1 GHZ processor (also an upgrade as this is the latest and great 1 GHZ processor from Qualcomm— the company who makes the processors– so you should expect not just better speed, but better battery life as well), 8 megapixel back camera with flash, face detection and 720p HD video recording AND 1.3 megapixel camera on the front for video chat (which you can do over WiFi), noise cancellation (for better sounding calls). On top of all this runs Android 2.2, but hopefully we’ll see an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread coming sometime soon after launch (though nothing has been said about this yet).
All in all, at a much more affordable $199.99 with 2 year contract and $29.99 unlimited data plan, Verizon is making sure there is a great new Droid for pretty much anyone— even if this one lacks 4G support (on the bright side though, this will probably get better battery life than the Droid Charge because it doesn’t have that power-sucking 4G chip inside it).
You can pick up a Droid Incredible 2 tomorrow, April 28th, at your local Verizon store or online at Verizon’s site.
While we all keep waiting for HTC and Verizon to release their highly anticipated 4G beast– the ThunderBolt first announced at CES in January and said to be coming any day now– new info has come out on another very impressive HTC/Verizon Droid: the successor to the extremely popular Droid Incredible. AndroidSPIN has gotten hold of some pix and specs of the new, unannounced device and wow does it look nice.
Specs here include a 4 inch high-res Super LCD screen (read: really nice screen), 1 GHZ processor with 768 MB of RAM (for excellent speed– this is the same as on AT&T’s HTC Inspire 4G which we found to be incredibly fast), 8 megapixel back camera with flash and HD video recording AND a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video chat (like on the ThunderBolt), and last but not least– Android 2.3 Gingerbread possibly with HTC Sense (about time we see phones with this latest and greatest version of Android come out).
For now this is all just rumors, and both HTC and Verizon have not commented or confirmed any of this (and obviously they haven’t shared other important details like if will also have 4G, when it will come out, and how much it will cost). If we had to guess we should learn more next week at CTIA 2011 in Orlando (which we’ll be at live!)– so if you’re looking for a new Verizon Droid, try to wait it out for another week or so.
One more shot of the back of the phone after the break.

So the latest and arguably greatest Android phone (or perhaps even just the best overall phone) for Verizon, the Droid Incredible by HTC, is finally out. And, while not a huge surprise (yet still very impressive), it’s already sold out online! Now don’t worry if you didn’t already order or pre-order your Incredible, as you can still try your luck at your local Verizon store (and if that doesn’t work out, you can still place your orders online, though new orders aren’t expected to ship until next Tuesday 5/4). Oh, and all Droid Incredible buyers between now (including those who pre-ordered) and May 31st get a free 2 GB microSD card, bringing the built in memory up to around 10 GB (it also has 8 GB built-in).
Now for those that we’re able to get an Incredible, what you think of it (is it Verizon’s best phone yet? Better than an iPhone?), and if you didn’t yet– do you plan to? Lets us know in the comments.
And for all the details on what is the Droid Incredible and why it’s so great, see our previous post here.

Boy, if you have Verizon, and you are thinking about getting a new phone, you are going to have plenty of options. Between the Kins, the HTC Droid Incredible, and the possibility of a new iPhone this summer, Verizon is certainly pandering to the teenage community. For those who want a more simple yet solid phone (that don’t necessarily need constant internet or apps), the Samsung Reality is certainly going to be a big contender and with specs like these, you can’t disagree:
- 3-inch touch screen with TouchWiz interface. TouchWiz allows you to completely personalize your phone through special widgets. For instance, the communities widget allows you to post videos on YouTube, update your status on Facebook, and go to ESPN in a snap.
- Horizontal slide-out keyboard
- 3.2 megapixel camera with a slew of editing features such as: single, multi, panorama, mosaic and frame shot modes; and video capture capabilities, photo editing features, including Dynamic Canvas, which supports flash animations in pictures. Y’ know, just in case you ever need to edit entire movies on the go 🙂
- Bluetooth technology
- Corporate E-mail, support for Microsoft Exchange so you can e-mail on the go
- Micro SD slot with support for 16 GB
- Visual Voicemail, for those lazy moments when you just can’t lift your phone to hear the voicemail
The Samsung Reality is set to come out on April 22nd for a not-so-expensive $79.99 after a $50 mail in rebate and a 2 year new customer contract. However, as with many new phones coming out with Verizon, in order to get the most out of the Samsung Reality, you will have to purchase a 25 MB data plan for $9.99 (yes, on these new “feature phones”– or phones that don’t run a smartphone OS like BlackBerry, Android or iPhone– Verizon has begun adding in the requirement of a data plan in order to get the subsidized price).
So, are you going to go with the Reality? Or will you wait for the Droid Incredible or Kin to come out? Sound off in the comments.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this: wow. If you’re on Verizon — between this and the KINs — you’ve got some really tough choices ahead. This phone truly is crazy, a seeming mix of the Nexus One and HTC Desire, taking pieces from both and making one sick phone. The Droid Incredible really looks to bring “the next chapter in the Droid saga” (Verizon’s words, though I completely agree). Just look at these specs:
- 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen— This is a really high quality screen. Think of it like the Nexus One‘s screen– very clear and very bright.
- Very thin design— Look at the pic above. See the Droid Incredible in the side angle? Yeah, it’s that thin.
- 8MP camera with flash, auto–focus and video capture— Not only do you get great shots, but this can also shoot full 720p HD (yes, HD!) video.
- 3G, GPS and WiFi
- 3.5 mm headphone jack
- Android 2.1 with next generation Sense UI— As we’ve seen from MWC, this takes the Android homescreen to another level with features like “Leap” (for viewing all 7 homescreens in an Expose like way) and “Friend Stream” for viewing Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates in one combined view.
- 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor– To keep everything running really fast and smooth.
- 8GB built in memory — with the ability to add up to 16GB more through microSD. The built in 8GB can hold about 2,000 songs.
So when can we expect this beast to arrive? Thankfully, Verizon plans to release this soon– in 2 weeks, on April 29th.
You can pre-order the Droid Incredible starting next Monday, April 19th. The Droid Incredible will cost $199.99 on new 2 year contract with data plans ($29.99 a month). So what will you choose this or the KIN?
