AT&T Announces Their Third LTE Phone: The LG Nitro HD

lg nitro hd

Looking for a new AT&T 4G LTE phone this holiday season but want something with a more powerful screen than the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket or HTC Vivid? Well, then you should check out AT&T’s latest 4G LTE beast, the LG Nitro HD. Like the Vivid and Galaxy S II Skyrocket, the Nitro HD is an absolute beast of a phone with all the latest and greatest specs you’d expect on a top-of-the-line Android phone today: 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor, 8 megapixel back camera with 1.3 megapixel front camera for video chat, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich likely coming next year), and of course, support for AT&T’s growing 4G LTE network (and 4G HSPA+ network for the places that don’t have LTE yet. See our post here on what the differences are between AT&T’s 4G networks).

But the biggest news here is the screen. Like Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus and HTC Rezound, the Nitro HD packs a 4.5 inch 720p HD screen (the first phone on AT&T to do so). This means that everything from pictures to videos to games to websites will look beyond amazing on here (think of this as the awesomeness of the iPhone’s Retina Display, but on a screen one inch larger). If you plan on using your phone for a lot of video watching (it comes with 20 GB of storage) or gaming we definitely recommend checking this guy out.

The Nitro HD will be available this Sunday, December 4th, for a pretty expensive price of $250 with a new 2 year contract and data plan (and who knows, hopefully it’ll get some holiday discounts as we get closer to the end of the month).

LG Thrill 4G Release Date Announced– Coming September 4th for $100

lg thrill 4g

Waiting for AT&T to release their 4G, glasses-free 3D beast also known as the LG Thrill 4G? Well, your wait is finally almost over. Beginning this Sunday, September 4th, the Thrill 4G can be yours for a solid $100 with a new 2 year contract and data plan.

For those who don’t know, the Thrill 4G is one of AT&T most powerful 4G Android phones to date, with some pretty powerful specs like a dual-core 1 GHZ processor (so everything you do on it from 3D gaming to basic texting is fast and smooth), dual 5 megapixel back cameras with a second front camera for video chat (so you can not only watch 3D but shoot 3D videos too), Android 2.2 (though hopefully it will soon be upgraded to the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread. AT&T and LG also have given the Thrill 4G special 3D apps like a 3D version of YouTube and the LG 3D Space app store so you can make full use of that 3D screen), support for AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network, and of course that amazing 4.3 inch qHD glasses-free 3D screen (and since it’s a qHD screen everything from those 3D videos and games to your texts and Facebook will look great).

We were pretty impressed when we saw the Thrill 4G, and at just $100 it looks to be a solid deal for AT&T users looking for a powerful phone for back to school but don’t want to pay over $100 (and some places like Target are even offering it for just $80 on contract).

You can see more of the Thrill 4G at AT&T’s preview page here.

T-Mobile Gives LG G2X and Samsung Sidekick 4G Official Pricing and Release Dates– Get Ready For April 20th

lg g2x first look

Remember those rumored pricing and release dates for two of T-Mobile’s hottest upcoming phones, the LG G2X and Samsung Sidekick 4G? Well, we just heard from T-Mobile and guess what, it’s now official. Starting in twelve days, April 20th, both of these sick new phones will be available at your local T-Mobile store for $99.99 on a new 2 year contract and $30 a month unlimited data plan for the Sidekick 4G (or $149.99 with new 2 year contract  and T-Mobile’s much more affordable $10 250 MB plan. This plan is great for light email, updating your Facebook or some quick browsing of the web but not a lot of video watching over 4G. If you do plan on watching a lot of video, web browsing or constantly checking Facebook over 4G we’d recommend the unlimited plan) or $199.99 with a new 2 year contract and unlimited data plan for the LG G2X.

We checked out both of these beasts down at CTIA last month and we were very impressed with both. We found both to be extremely fast and we really loved the large screen on the G2X and the awesome keyboard on the Sidekick 4G. For all the details and our full first impressions on these bad boys see our first looks here (G2X, Sidekick 4G).

So T-Mobile users, if you’re looking for a new phone what’s it gonna be: Sidekick 4G, G2X or some other powerful 4G phone like the Galaxy S 4G or myTouch 4G?

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, LG G-Slate and G2X Coming April 20th?

radioshack twitter sidekick 4g

If you though March was an awesome month for T-Mobile users (well, depending on if you like the idea of possibly becoming part of AT&T) then April looks to be even better as this will be time when 3 of T-Mobile’s awesome new devices– Sidekick 4G, LG G2X and LG G-Slate tablet– are said to be coming to a store near you. And all on the same day no less: April 20th.

How do we know this? Well yesterday Radio Shack– which sells T-Mobile phones– sent out this tweet (which you see above) with the pretty self-explanatory line “The new @TMobile Sidekick 4G comes to The Shack on April 20!” Yeah, can’t get any clearer than that. Now T-Mobile hasn’t officially unveiled this to be the day when this latest awesome Sidekick lands, but unless Radio Shack wants to play a pretty pathetic April Fools joke we really think this will be the date.

As for the LG G2X and G-Slate, rumors have been flying around the internet lately that April 20th will also be the date these 2 new awesome devices will launch. Again, T-Mobile hasn’t officially said anything yet (including a price for the G2X) but the rumors are getting louder and louder so we can definitely see it happening.

We’ll of course keep you updated once we do get the official word, but while you start marking down your calendars T-Mobile users, which phone are you gonna get: LG G2X or Sidekick 4G?

Tablets From CTIA Round Up: First Looks of Motorola Xoom, LG G-Slate, HTC EVO View 4G and BlackBerry PlayBook

tablets

Last weeks CTIA wasn’t all about awesome new phones, we also had the chance to take a look at some of recently released or coming soon tablets that look to give the iPad 2 a strong run for your money: the Android 3.0 Honeycomb running LG G-Slate and recently released Motorola Xoom, Android 2.3 Gingerbread running HTC EVO View 4G with Scribe pen, and of course BlackBerry’s big new tablet, the PlayBook. There’s a lot you’re gonna wanna know here, so let’s get to it.

The Teen First Look: T-Mobile LG G2X

lg g2x first look

The LG Optimus 3D/AT&T Thrill 4G wasn’t the only impressive new Android phone announced by LG at CTIA, T-Mobile also got an awesome new phone– the LG G2X. Unlike the Thrill  4G this beast doesn’t pack a glasses-free 3D screen, but it still is very powerful and has a few nice tricks of its own.

lg g2x camera

The look and design of the G2X is pretty similar to that of the Thrill 4G and like the Thrill it feels great in your hand. The slightly smaller 4 inch (compared to the Thrill’s 4.3 inch) screen was also equally sharp and clear,  and it’s 8 megapixel back camera— while also not 3D— took some great looking shots (there is also a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video chat).

lg g2x first look video game tv demo

Yeah that’s right–you can play your games (or view your entire phone for that matter) on a big screen!

Like the other phones in T-Mobile’s “G” line (the G1 and G2) the G2X runs a uncustomized version of Android 2.2 (though both LG and T-Mobile told us this will be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread shortly after launch) and has a 1 GHZ dual core processor, which combined with that awesome screen makes playing games incredible (we even connected the phone to a big screen TV using the HDMI cable and were able to play games on there– and while this didn’t give us Xbox 360/PS3 quality graphics, it was still pretty sick). Oh, and this runs on the T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ network, which was also incredibly fast.

The G2X will be coming to a T-Mobile store near you  “later this spring” for a price still to be announced.
