Ever since we wrote about the Photon 4G in our top upcoming Sprint phones post a lot of you have asked when this phone will finally come out and for how much. Well, today we finally got the answer to those questions with an official price and release date. Well, the Photon 4G will be available sooner than you thinkcoming at the end of this month, July 31st, for the as expected $199.99 with new 2 year contract and data plan.

For those who don’t know, the Photon 4G is kinda like the recently released HTC EVO 3D just without the 3D part. It’s a beast of a phone with specs like a 4.3 inch qHD screen (not 3D but still very, very nice and a screen that should make everything you view on it look amazing)1 GHZ dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with 1 GB of RAM (again, for awesome speed)8 megapixel back camera with front camera for video chat, kickstand, and the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread with custom Motorola UI on top. The Photon 4G can also be docked into a “HD Station” so you can connect the Photon 4G to a larger screen and use its Webtop OS with Firefox browser (this is the same OS that allows the AT&T Atrix 4G to turn into a “laptop” when it’s docked in its laptop dock). Unfortunately there’s no word on if the Photon  4G will get is own laptop dock (it’s slightly bigger screen makes it too big to fit into the Atrix’s), but if there is one we’ll make sure you know about it.

We saw the Photon 4G for ourselves a few weeks ago and we were very impressed. If you want a powerful Sprint phone and don’t want the 3D of the EVO 3D, this is definitely worth waiting for.

So, what’s it gonna be: Photon 4G, EVO 3D or are you waiting for a different phone to be your next Sprint phone? Sound off in the comments.

The Teen First Look: Motorola Photon 4G

A lot of you have been wondering about more information about a phone we consider to be one of the top 5 coming to Sprint this summer— the super powerful Motorola Photon 4G. We got a chance to spend a few minutes with the Photon and we have to say, now is a really good time to have an upgrade on Sprint.

Obviously the biggest competitor with the Photon 4G is the upcoming HTC EVO 3D, and for those who don’t want 3D but still a very fast and powerful phone, the Photon looks to be an excellent choice.

Design wise the Photon 4G looks very nice and also feels great in the hand. It’s very thin and light, but not too thin and light that you’re worried it will snap in half if you hold it the wrong way. We also really liked the slanted edges around the phone’s corners as they are not only a very nice little styling touch, but at least to us, helped make holding the phone a bit more comfortable.

The screen and specs of the Photon 4G are also very similar to the EVO 3D. The 4.3 inch high-res qHD screen, while obviously not 3D, was very sharp and impressive with everything we saw on it phone coming off crisp and clear. In terms of cameras, the Photon packs the now common 4G requirement of two cameras, a front one for video chat and an 8 megapixel one on the back for when you want nicer, better quality shots (or HD video recording). In our brief time with the phone both took very nice, clear shots. The Photon also has a 1 GHZ dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM and in our brief first look, both seemed to work just as you’d hope and expect– with the Photon running very quickly and smoothly with no lag, freezing or waiting. In terms of software the Photon also comes with the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a custom Motorola theme on top, which from our brief time looked very nice.

On other thing that we found interesting was that Motorola told us that the Photon would have the Webtop OS found on the AT&T Motorola Atrix. And while they wouldn’t say what accessories would make use of it, this does mean it could theoretically have a laptop dock like the Atrix which would make this phone a double threat of phone and laptop (again though, that’s just one possible way it could be used and Motorola didn’t officially give us any info on if this will or won’t happen. They did though say that the Atrix’s laptop dock wouldn’t work with the Photon and if the Photon were to get a laptop dock it would need a special one designed for the Photon– though this is probably because the Photon’s screen and size are a little larger than the Atrix with the Photon’s screen being 4.3 inches while the Atrix’s is just 4 inches. We’ll of course keep you updated on all this as we learn more).

Motorola was also very tight-lipped about when exactly we can expect the Photon to launch or for how much, just telling us it will be available “later this summer.”

We covered AT&T and Verizon a little while ago but now it’s time to cover the next big carrier on our list: Sprint.

So Sprint users– you’ve got an upgrade coming up sometime over the next couple of weeks/months and while you like some of the phones already out there, you really wanna know what Sprint’s got planned during the next few weeks or months so you don’t go out and buy something only to really regret it a week later. We’re here to help. While not all of these are confirmed to be coming to Sprint (some are just our best guesses based on rumors we’ve been hearing), here are 5 phones that are said to be on their way to Sprint that if you have an upgrade should be really excited for (and trust us– they’re really good).
