AT&T Palm Pre Plus Launching this Sunday

Want a Palm Pre but not on Sprint or Verizon? AT&T users– your wait is almost up. AT&T has announced today that the Pre Plus from Palm will be available very soon, like this Sunday soon. (Note that HP is in the process of buying the struggling Palm for $1.2 billion– yes BILLION!)

The Pre Plus is pretty much is the same as when we saw it in March— 3.1 inch multi-touch screen, webOS, WiFi, GPS, 3G, webOS, 16 GB of storage and a 3 megapixel camera with flash and video recording– and will be available this coming Sunday, May 16th, for $149.99 with new 2 year contract and data plan. It will also come with a free Touchstone charging station when you purchase the Pre Plus in an AT&T store. As announced with the original Sprint Pre, the Touchstone allows you to just put your phone on the little dock, seen in the pic above, to charge your phone, i.e. no more plugging in cables (It costs $50 when purchased separately).

Honestly though, considering the Verizon Pre Plus costs only $29.99 on a new 2 year contract and data plan (and comes with free access to turn it into a MiFi like WiFi hotspot to connect other WiFi devices, like a laptop or iPod touch, to the Verizon network), I’m pretty shocked AT&T is charging so much, and am hoping they follow Verizon and cut the price real soon.

What you think– is $149.99 too much for the Pre Plus with Touchstone or were you hoping for a deal like Verizon’s Pre Plus? You plan on getting one of these? Sound off in the comments.

Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus Coming Soon to AT&T

CTIA is still a day away but that doesn’t stop some big news from coming out early. It’s been a long time coming, but sometime over the “coming months” AT&T will finally release their own versions of the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus. The news was made official this morning, with the Pre Plus said to be coming in at $149.99 (same as Verizon) and the Pixi Plus at the very good price of $49.99 ($30 cheaper than Verizon’s Pixi Plus, and the price we thought the Pixi Plus should’ve been at all along).

Specs-wise, both of these are pretty much the same as the Verizon versions announced in January— WiFi, GPS, 3G, webOS, 16 GB of storage and a 3 megapixel camera with flash and video recording on the Pre Plus, and 8 GB with a 2 megapixel camera with flash and video recording on the Pixi Plus etc. The big add on for the AT&T Pixi Plus is that AT&T will also offer a blue backplate for the phone (a major change we’re sure interests you lots), in addition to the standard black and other swappable covers available for the Pixi.

These are definitely solid additions to AT&T’s lineup– giving you a full array of smartphones to choose from no matter what OS and design you prefer. Though seeing the recent problems Palm has been going through (their stock has dropped to below $4 today, with lots of speculation of perhaps someone buying the company), let’s hope Palm and AT&T make that “coming months” into a “really soon” real quick.

Palm Introduces Pre Plus and Pixi Plus to Verizon; Updates webOS

Yesterday at Palm’s CES keynote, CEO Jon Rubinstein announced what we’ve been waiting for since the Pre first hit one year ago— availability on carriers other than Sprint, like Verizon. Sprint’s exclusives on both the Pre and Pixi have finally run up, so Palm plans to bring some updated version of both devices to Verizon by the end of the month (January 25th!).

But that’s not all. They talked a lot on the future of webOS, something that’s good for all devices (be it Pre, Pixi or the Plus versions). Read on for exciting details on both the new phones and the new software.
